Mauraine E. Valle, 95, of Humboldt, passed away October 26, 2011 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.   Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton and Rev. Matthew Manz officiating.  Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato, MN.  Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Mauraine Eugenia Carlson Valle was born October 7, 1916 in North Mankato, Minnesota, the oldest daughter of Amel T. and Grace Carlson.  When Mauraine was two years old, her family moved to Mankato, Minnesota.  She graduated from Mankato Teachers College in 1938 with a BA degree in English, History, and Art.  Mauraine taught one year in Mapleton, Minnesota and married her college sweetheart, Howard P. Valle, on August 25, 1939.

After one year in Tracy, Minnesota, Mauraine and Howard moved to Redwood Falls, MN where they raised their family.  Active in the community, Mauraine served for five years as co-chairman of the Red Cross Blood Bank and president of the Philolectian Study Club.  She was a substitute teacher in the Redwood Falls Jr. and Sr. High School for over 20 years.

In 1970, Mauraine and Howard moved to Humboldt, Iowa.   Mauraine was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and active in church circle and as a parish visitor for many years.  Mauraine was a member and was a long-time member and president of PEO, member of Chautauqua Study Club, Questers Antique Club and Humboldt Women’s Club.  Mauraine was a life member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the Humboldt County Historical Society.

Mauraine enjoyed her home on the river, oil painting, reading, traveling, and entertaining.  She was an avid bridge player, playing duplicate bridge up until the day before her death.  Most of all she enjoyed being with family and friends.

Mauraine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; and her two younger sisters, Isla Mae Henderson and Muriel Hubbard Westerholm.

She is survived by her two daughters, Katherine (Douglas) Skor of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Susan (Stanley Parker) Valle of Oak Park, Illinois; four grandchildren, Annelise (Thomas) Swigert, Emily (Sean Cairncross) Skor, Margaret Skor and Stephanie Skor; and four great grandchildren, Morgan and Annabelle Swigert, and India and Dominic Cairncross; brother-in-law, Robert Valle of Golden Valley, MN; and nieces and nephews.
