Funeral services for Melvin Raymond Thorn, 74 years old, of Rutland, Iowa will be Saturday, June 21, 2014, 11:00 am,  at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt, Iowa.  Viewing will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday evening June 20, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.  Melvin died June 17, 2014 at Stratford Nursing and Rehab, Stratford, Iowa.
​Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law Rodger and Sharon Thorn of Fort Dodge, Iowa.  Melvin is survived by his sister Mildred Steineck of Boone; brother-in law and sister Delbert and Mary Lee Ingalls of Alleman; brother-in-law and sister Wayne and Joyce Goos of Boone; sister Dianne Christianson of Newport Beach, California; and, sister-in-law CarolThorn of Fort Dodge.  Melvin is survived by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all of whom he loved and enjoyed.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law and sister Mac and Marian MacArthurof Humboldt; his brother-in-law and sister Ross (Bud) and Violet Ahrens of Boone; his brother and sister-in-law Robert (Bill) and Janet Thorn of Humboldt; and his brother Jerry Thorn of Fort Dodge.

Melvin Raymond Thorn, son of Paul and Mabel (Larson) Thorn, was born February 6, 1940.  He lived all his life in Rutland in the home he was born into and lived out the final years of his life at Stratford Nursing and Rehab, Stratford, Iowa.  Following his education in the Rutland School, Melvin entered the Air Force and served in San Antonio, Texas.  After receiving a Medical Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, Melvin was employed in the Paul Thorn Trucking Business with his father and brothers.  He was confirmed in the Rutland Trinity Lutheran Church at age 14.

Melvin loved his family, his parents, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.  He was especially appreciative to sister and brother-in-law Marian and Mac MacArthur of Humboldt for their many kindnesses and care of Melvin while they were alive.

We will miss our beloved brother and uncle, his cheerfulness, optimism and humor.
