Meraim B. "Mim" Zeman

August 10, 1924 — December 19, 2022

Meraim “Mim” B. Zeman, 98 of Humboldt, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit.

Meraim was the daughter of Leonard and Minnie (Hagedorn) Ripperger and was born August 10, 1924 on a farm near Rolfe. She was raised and confirmed in the Bradgate Methodist Church and graduated from Des Moines Township School, where she excelled playing basketball. On March 18, 1943, she was united in marriage to Art Zeman at the Bradgate Methodist Church. The couple lived and farmed in the Bradgate area until 1974 when they moved to Gilmore City. Meraim then worked at the Humboldt South Care Center for 15 years before retiring – the last 3 years working as the activities director which she really enjoyed. While in Gilmore City she belonged to the Senior Citizens, OK Card Club, active in the United Methodist Women and was a long time Sunday school teacher. After the Bradgate Center closed, they continued to worship at Faith United Methodist Church in Gilmore City. Art passed away May 16, 2004 and Meraim maintained her home until moving to Springvale Independent Living in 2007 and later to assisted living. She entered Long Term Care January 2020 where she received wonderful loving care until the time of her death. While living at Springvale and L.T.C. she enjoyed her friends, visiting the sick and the activities, programs, music and loved playing Bingo. She never missed a Sunday afternoon church service at Long Term Care. Meraim was a great cook using vegetables from her garden, she made a lot of baked goods, enjoyed flowers, sewing, raising chickens and helping Art with the farm work. She enjoyed spending time and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Mim and Art were able to travel extensively throughout the United States, fishing with family in Minnesota and spending time with family in Arizona during the winter.

Meraim is survived by her son Richard (Eleanor) Zeman of Waukee, son Howard (Mari) of Montrose, Colorado, daughter Marilyn (Mike) Aaby of Pella, Norm (Rose) Zeman of Ottosen, 17 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art, granddaughter Wendy Aaby, sister Frances White, brothers Elroy, Theo and Leonard Jr. Ripperger.
