Michael J. Janssen, 36, of Columbia, MO, formerly of Humboldt, passed away December 18, 2013 at Columbia.  Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.  Visitation will be prior to the services at the funeral home.

Mike is survived by his mother, Katherine Janssen of Humboldt; father, Cal Janssen of Daytona, FL; his brother, Christopher (Jennifer) Janssen of Manchester; nieces, Allison and Joy Janssen; grandmothers, Betty Janssen of Humboldt and Lydia Johnson of Fairfield; aunt, Carmen Janssen; and uncle, Dale Frederick.  He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Max Janssen, Daryl Frederick, and Alvin Johnson; and his uncle, Ron Frederick.
Michael John Janssen, the son of Calvert and Katherine (Frederick) Janssen, was born January 15, 1977 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.  The family made their home in Des Moines until moving to North Carolina.  At the age of 8, Mike returned to Humboldt with his mother where he received his education.  Mike graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1995 where he excelled at football and track.  He then attended Northwestern College at Orange City on a football scholarship until transferring to Iowa State University.  In 2008, he married Emily Hawkins and the couple made their home in Columbia, Missouri where Mike was employed with MBS Book Exchange.  The marriage was later dissolved.

Mike loved caring for his pets.  He also loved all kinds of sports and was able to go to many bowl games.  He enjoyed music, reading, and traveling with his father.
