Mike Hall

August 9, 1924 — May 15, 2016

H. Milo “Mike” Hall, 91, of Humboldt, passed away May 15, 2016 at the Hill Top Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Otho Cemetery, Otho. Visitation with the family will be 10-11 am Tuesday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hall is survived by his sons, Michael (Susan) Hall of Cedar Falls, Jay Hall of Lake Park, and Matthew (Darlene) Hall of Spirit Lake; and grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, Kiesha, William, Fred, Makayla, and Melissa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Jeannie.
Hernando Milo Hall was born August 9, 1924 at Sloan, Iowa. His father’s work as a minister in the Methodist Church took the family to several communities around Iowa. Mike graduated from Garner High School in 1941 and attended Evanston College for a year before transferring to Morningside College in Sioux City. On December 13, 1942, Mike enlisted into the United States Navy. He was stationed in the Philippines where he repaired sonar’s for the Navy during World War II. His love of music continued during the war with his participation in the Naval Quartet until his honorable discharge in March of 1945. Mike was united in marriage to Imogene Collinson on May 25, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Clear Lake, Iowa. He returned to Morningside College and completed his teaching degree in 1949.
Mr. Hall’s teaching career began in Stanhope then Ventura where he taught all music programs. He then accepted the position of band instructor at Britt before moving to Humboldt in 1956. He served the Humboldt Community School System as the vocal music teacher until his retirement in 1975. Following his retirement, Mike went to work for Northwest Mutual Life as an agent for many years.
Mike was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church where he was active in the church choir, adult Sunday School, and sang for many weddings and funerals. He was an active member of the 7 O’clock Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed woodworking and loved fishing trips to Canada and the Boundary Waters.
