Nelson Henry Hendrickson, 86, of Humboldt, passed away September 18, 2012 at his home.  A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt with pastors Doug Wolter and Brian Friedel officiating.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Nelson is survived by his wife Arlys (Borg) Hendrickson, sons; Michael (Bethanne) of Greenwich, NY, Paul (Linda) of Berkeley, IL, David (Nancy) of Needham, MA, Danny (Lisa) of Mt Laurel, NJ and Peter (Cindy) of Pleasant Hill, IA, daughters; Catherine (Ray) Stockdale of Humboldt, Carol (Brett) Rossow of Belton, MO, Melissa Hendrickson (Joe Collins) of Livermore, IA, 17 grandchildren, Thomas, Rachel, Meghan, Matthew, Joshua, Sara, Anne, Peter, Erik, Marc, Alex, Abbey, Timothy, Jeremy, Ian, Amber, Nathan, 9 great-grandchildren, Gunner, Savannah, Grayson, Craig, Henry, Jada, Lydia, Elliot and Reese,  sisters; Clara Wagner and Marie (Bill) Nelsen.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son; Thomas and brothers, Robert, Donald and Paul.

Nelson Henry Hendrickson, the son of Clarence William and Johanne Catherine (Sorensen) Hendrickson, was born November 14, 1925 in Ward, South Dakota. Early in life his parents moved to Iowa where Nelson grew up and attended the Renwick school graduating from High School in 1944 and continued his education by attending college at Chillicothe Business College.  Nelson served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and attained the rank of Sgt. serving in Iceland and Greenland as a radio mechanic. On Oct. 4th 1949 Nelson was united in marriage to Arlys Borg in Forest City, IA. Nelson and Arlys made their home in Elgin, IA and Humboldt, IA while Nelson worked for the Rock Island RR, Interstate Power and most recently REA/REC retiring in 1987 after working for them as a lineman for 37 years.   He enjoyed all types of woodworking and wood carving and made numerous toys for his grandchildren.   Along with his woodworking he also enjoyed photography and passed that passion on to his children.  Among Nelson’s other interests and hobbies were remodeling his home, fishing, pheasant hunting, waterskiing or gardening.  Nelson was a board member of Cornbelt Credit Union during its first few years after being organized.  Nelson attended Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt.
