Neva C. Helvick

Neva C. Helvick, 88, of Humboldt, passed away Friday morning, December 23, 2022, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove.


She was born November 4,1934 in Ringsted, Iowa, the daughter of George and Karen (Flint) Meyer. She was raised in Ringsted at an early age and then moved with her family to the Humboldt area, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1952. Following high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Springvale Creamery and then as a teller for First National Bank. She was united in marriage to Malcolm D. Helvick on January 29,1956 at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The couple farmed in the Bradgate area for many years while they owned and operated the Dairy Sweet in Humboldt. Later they moved to Bode and operated the Imperial Café. Following Malcolm’s death, Neva maintained her home in Bode until moving to Humboldt in 2006, where she was employed at the Beacon Motel for a number of years. Neva and Malcolm worked hard to provide for their family, cherished spending time with family, they were active in the Rutland Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and later at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She belonged to the C & G Club and two different 500 card clubs.


Neva is survived by her children Lori Faltinson of Dakota City, Jeff (Cathy) Helvick of Livermore and Tami (Paul) Helland of Garner, five grandchildren Jeremy Hauck, Jenna (Jake) Hilton, Cory (Rachael) Helland, Janey (Logan) Skelley and Calvin Helland, six great-grandchildren Cortney Hauck, Landon, Liam & Harper Hilton, Maddison & Luka Helland and two great-great-grandchildren Adaline & Kian Reyna and her sister Geraldine Harris of Webster City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Malcolm, infant daughter Joni, infant son Scott, her son-in-law Don, her brothers Clarence and Elvin and her sisters Ruth and Doris.


Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4th at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3rd at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. www.masonlindhart.com
