Oscar A. Oppedahl, 94, of Bode, passed away May 25, 2009 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Bode with the Rev. Paul Breddin officiating. Interment will be in St.Olaf Cemetery, Bode. Visitation with the family will be 5-8 p.m. today at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Bode.
Mr. Oppedahl is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Suzanne (Irving) Globstad of West Des Moines, Peter (Carie) Oppedahl of Fort Dodge, Anthony (Tami) Oppedahl of Sacramento, CA, and Ronald Oppedahl of Laguna Hills, CA; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and brother, Richard Oppedahl of Rapid City, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Knute, Harold, and Bjarne Oppedahl; sister, Esther Oppedahl; and grandson, Matthew Oppedahl.
Oscar Anton Oppedahl, the son of Ole and Bertha (Lee) Oppedahl, was born May 21, 1915 at Thor, Iowa and attended country schools. Following the death of his father, Oscar took over the families farming operations until they moved to Ottosen where his mother purchased the restaurant. On April 14, 1940, he was united in marriage to Frances Enockson at Ottosen. The couple farmed together near Ottosen until 1966. Oscar then went to work for the Hotsy Corporation for 14 years. In 1970, Frances and Oscar built their house and moved to Bode. In their retirement, they enjoyed wintering several years in California and 10 years in Texas. Oscar also enjoyed helping their children build additions onto their homes, woodworking, and hobby crafts. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Ottosen.
