Peter D. Holt, 73, of Humboldt, passed away September 30, 2014 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Pete is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dianne Holt of Humboldt; his children, Michelle (Niall) McKeown of El Segundo, CA, and Peter (Tracey) Holt of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Dannan and Kira McKeown, and Emma, Matthew, and Ethan Holt; and his sisters, Priscilla (Glenn) Jacobsen of Iowa City, Mary Anne (Scott) deVry of Seattle, WA, Rachel (George) Shidler of Ankeny, and Martha (Rob) Thompson of Swea City.
His parents, Merle and Frances Holt, preceded him in death.
Peter Donovan Holt, the son of Merle and Frances E. (Chambers) Holt, was born December 12, 1940 at his family’s home in Ottosen. He was raised and educated in Ottosen and graduated with the second consolidated class of Twin Rivers High School in Bode. He attended Luther College and graduated with a degree in Business. Pete began his career in the insurance industry as an adjuster with General Casualty in Des Moines. He then took over the northern Iowa territory for the General Adjustment Bureau in Fort Dodge.
Pete and Dianne Bueghly-Wiechert met at Lake Okoboji, and the couple was united in marriage on November 2, 1968 at New Ulm, Minnesota. They made their home in Humboldt where they started their family. Following the death of his father, Pete returned to the family’s insurance business, Holt Insurance Agency, and successfully grew that business until 1989 when it merged with the Abens Marty Curran Agency. In 2005, he along with his son, Peter M., established the Iowa Municipal Insurance Agency in Dakota City where he remained until his retirement.
Pete was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. An avid automobile and petrolina enthusiast, Pete amassed an impressive collection of antique cars and petroleum memorabilia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
