Phyllis Edge

July 3, 1926 — September 3, 2017

Phyllis Noreen Skaugstad, the daughter of Heine and Albie (Tufte) Skaugstad, was born July 3, 1926 in Bode, Iowa. She was raised in Bode until the third grade when the family moved to Humboldt. Following the death of her mother, Phyl helped raise and care for her younger brothers while completing her education. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1944. After graduation, she moved to Virginia and worked for the Census Bureau in Maryland. She then returned home to continue to help care for her family.
In May of 1948, she was united in marriage to Gene “Duke” Edge. The couple made their home in Humboldt all of their married lives. In their early years, Phyl was busy raising the couple’s four daughters. She enjoyed her friends and neighbors, drinking coffee and playing Bridge. She was always active volunteering and found great reward in helping others. She loved her church and attending Bible Studies. In their retirement, Duke and Phyl enjoyed attending estate sales and auctions, searching for antiques to sell in their Storm Lake and Okoboji area antique stores. She was a member of a Questers antique club. Above all, Phyl loved the Lord, and her family. She will always be remembered as a fun and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Phyl is survived by her daughters, Jane (Bob) Lee of Humboldt, Alecia (John) Sleiter of Humboldt, Michele (Tom) Knight of Lawrence, KS, and Jennifer Edge of Coralville, IA; 7 grandchildren and spouses; 11 great grandchildren (and one on the way); sister, Garnet Schlievert of Des Moines; and brothers, Dean (Shirley) Skaugstad of Sanibel, FL, and Charles (Marilyn) Skaugstad of Iowa City, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duke; infant sister, Alicia; and sisters, Juane Jensen and Roberta Sawyer.
