Raymond Klein

March 28, 1926 — January 4, 2015

Raymond Klein, 88, of Dakota City passed away Sunday January 4, 2015 at Humboldt Care Center North. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday January 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Humboldt; Father James Tigges celebrating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a Rosary at 4 and parish scripture service at 6. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Raymond was born March 28, 1926 in Sexton, Iowa to Nicholas and Mary (Heiderscheidt) Klein. His family moved to St. Joe where he completed high school. After graduation, Ray worked on several farms and as a plumber in Algona. On January 14, 1957 he married Genevieve Wagner at St. Cecelia’s Church in Algona. They moved to Humboldt in 1959, where Ray worked at Agrico, and then as custodian at St. Mary’s School in Humboldt. In 1966 Ray began working at Gunder Manufacturing in Dakota City, and he remained there until his retirement 1991.
Ray was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a charter member of the Humboldt Council of Knights of Columbus. He loved to do gardening and yard work. Ray enjoyed walking on the Three Rivers Trail. He derived the greatest joy from his grandchildren, and they from him. Raymond was a family man.
Ray is survived by his wife, Genevieve. Children; Peter of Humboldt, JoAnne (Gary) Kollasch of Algona, Patty Godfrey of Dakota City, and Debra (Robert) Straub of Sioux Falls, SD. Grandchildren; Lisa (Matt) Frerichs, Sarah (James) Walrack, Andrew Kollasch, Michelle Kollasch, Jennifer Jimenez, Sergio Jimenez, Matthew Godfrey, Graham Straub, and Daniel Straub. Surviving great-grandchildren are Mason Walrack, Owen Frerichs, and Caleb Walrack. Ray’s sister, Sr. Imogene Klein also survives. Preceding Ray in death were his parents, brothers Albert and Edward, as well as sisters Viola, Mary, Evelyn, and Eleanore.
