Services for Robert Larry Dunscombe, 45, of Humboldt who passed away on September 25, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt with the Rev. William Schreiber officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt, with a rosary service beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Rob is survived by his wife, Mary (McNertney) and children, Luke, Will, and Elise of Humboldt; parents, Larry and Carol Dunscombe of Humboldt; sisters, Laura Loftus of Minneapolis, MN and Lisa (John) Weydert of Lakeville, MN; brother, Richie of Mason City; mother and father- in-law, Charles (Karen) McNertney of Bancroft; brothers-in-law, David (Deena) McNertney of Minnesota, Joe (Sarah) McNertney of Latimer, Tim (Loni) McNertney of Algona; sisters-in-law, Geri (Tom) Kohlhaas of Humboldt, Sherrie (Dana) Reutzel of Belle Plaine, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert Larry Dunscombe, the son of Larry and Carol (Loftus) was born July 27, 1964 at Fort Dodge. Rob grew up in Humboldt where he was a 1983 graduate of Humboldt High School as class president. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1988 with a degree in industrial engineering. In 1989 Rob was united in marriage to Mary McNertney of Bancroft. For the next five years, Rob worked in the ever downsizing Aerospace Defense Field. They lived and worked in Minneapolis, St. Louis, and Des Moines. Rob was later accepted at the University Of Iowa School Of Dentistry in 1993. He graduated June 6, 1997 and the family moved back to Humboldt where he practiced dentistry with his father. He later partnered with Ryan Gidel and the two operate North Park Family Dentistry in Humboldt.
Rob was very vivacious and had a zest for life; he lived his life to the fullest, accumulating many friends along the way. He especially loved sharing his passions with his children which included Okoboji in the summertime, Iowa Football games in the fall, and skiing in Colorado in the winter, movies, music, and scuba diving. He gave real meaning to the words “working to live.”
Rob was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served on the parish council,the Humboldt Rotary Club, and was the incoming president of the Fort Dodge Dental District.
