Robert R. Lorenzen, 87, of Humboldt, passed away February 17, 2014 at the Humboldt Care Center North.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.  Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt with full military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119.  Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lorenzen is survived by his wife, Beverly of Humboldt; his son, Randy (Lisa) Lorenzen of Independence; daughter, Cindi Barenz of Independence; step-son, Monte (Patsy) Trenary of Humboldt; grandchildren, Nikki Barenz, Stephanie (Steven) Brewer, Jeff (Amber) Lorenzen, and Kelli Lehs; step grandchildren, Lonnie Trenary and Matt Trenary; great grandchildren, Miranda Brewer, Landon Brewer, Kylie Lorenzen, and Alana Barenz; step great grandchildren, Michayla Trenary, Bailey Trenary, and Brendon Trenary; brother, Richard (Carolyn) Lorenzen of Deloit, IA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daryl (Sharon) Long of Humboldt and Donna Lorenzen of Deloit, IA; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers; and 2 sisters.

Robert Ray Lorenzen, the son of Martin and Lydia (Sherman) Lorenzen, was born March 21, 1926 at Deloit, Iowa.  He received his education at Deloit and graduated from high school there.  He worked on a section crew and as an extra gang for the Illinois Central Railroad until enlisting into the United States Army in 1944.  He served with the 27th Division in the Pacific Theater.  Following his honorable discharge in 1946, Robert drove a truck at Cushing, Iowa for three years before enrolling at Boyles College at Omaha where he learned Telegraphy and Station Accounting.  He became an Agent/Operator for the Illinois Central Railroad in 1950 and worked in that capacity for 17 years until his resignation in 1967.


In 1952, he married Charlene Brown and that marriage was later dissolved.  In 1985 he was united in marriage to Beverly Trenary.

For 20 years he drove a truck hauling limestone from area quarries for P&M Stone, Welp McCartan, Weaver Constriction, and Wilson Trucking until his retirement in 1992.  For 12 years he made his home at Livermore until moving to Humboldt in 1985.

Robert was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 415 at Livermore.
