Robert D. Parsons, 64, of Humboldt, passed away December 23, 2014 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 29th at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Humboldt with Don Conner officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt, with full military rites by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Robert is survived by his wife, Nancy Parsons of Humboldt; his son, Matt Parsons of Humboldt; step children, Jennifer (Lonny) Lappin of Urbandale, and Bill (Brooke) Freese of Ankeny; step grandchildren, Greta and Ava Lappin and Clara, Audrey, and Otto Freese; brother, Dr. Donald (Denise) Parsons of Sioux City; and sister, Karen (Dennis) Lange of East Bethel, MN. His aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claire and Helen (Judt) Parsons.
Robert Dean Parsons, the son of Claire and Helen (Judt) Parsons, was born September 5, 1950 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised and educated at Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1969. Following his education, Robert enlisted into the United States Army and served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Following his tour of duty, Robert returned home. A music lover, Robert enrolled in the Brown Institute in Minneapolis with the hope of becoming a radio personality and DJ. He also attended Wayne State University in Nebraska.
On April 11, 1987, he was united in marriage to Nancy Cuckie Freese and the couple made their home in Humboldt. Robert worked in many labor endeavors including construction, trucking and transportation, and manufacturing including 18 years with Jet Co. in Humboldt. His advancing stages of COPD lead to his retirement in 2007.
Roberts’s interests were musical. He enjoyed a broad range of music and amassed an extensive collection of vinyl records dating back to his service days. He was also an animal lover and had cats as pets most of his life. He also enjoyed caring for a wide range of other animals including his turtles, fish, pigeons, and snakes.
He especially enjoyed his family and considered becoming a father as his greatest accomplishments.
