Robert R. Sorensen, 88, of Humboldt, passed away March 27, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery with full military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119.
Mr. Sorensen is survived by his children, Betty (Rick) Irvine of Mt. Dora, FL, Kenneth (Kathy) Sorensen of Pocahontas, Robin (Doug) Fitzgerald of Black Forest, CO, Curtis Sorensen of Bloomfield, IA, Sandy (Bill) Kelly of Vincent, IA, Larry (Karen) Sorensen of Humboldt, Karla Sorensen of Fort Dodge, and Becky (John) Pfeifer of West Columbia, SC; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine; grandchildren, Troy Fitzgerald and Lisa Sorensen; brothers, Kenneth and Arthur; and sister, Arlene.
Robert Raymond Sorensen, the son of Nels and Karen (Larsen) Sorensen, was born June 25, 1920 at Walnut Grove, MN. As a child, he moved with his family to the Bradgate and Rutland areas and attended school at Arnold and Unique. Following the eighth grade, Robert went to work for farmers in the area and was employed in factories in Illinois. He enlisted into the United States Navy during World War II where he served on the USS Nashville. He was united in marriage to Catherine Lentch in 1949 at Fort Dodge. The couple farmed together for 34 years east of Pioneer. In 1984, they moved to their home in Humboldt. Mrs. Sorensen passed away in November of 1998 and Robert continued to maintain his home. He passed away there on the evening of March 27, 2009 at the age of 88.
Robert was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He was a past member of the Elevator Board at Gilmore City, and enjoyed coffee time with his friends.
