Rodola J. Kellogg, 88, of Humboldt, passed away April 16, 2009 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.  Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.  Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Mrs. Kellogg is survived by her children, Marjorie (Dr. Laine) Dvorak of Humboldt, David (Valerie) Kellogg of Modesto, California, and Douglas (Judith) Kellogg of Marlborough, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Andrew Kellogg, Erin Kellogg, Michael Dvorak, Daniel Dvorak, Amanda (Scott) Sibson, James “Rick” (Renee) Kellogg, Kristine (David) Wedig, Kimberly (Todd) Falor, Matthew Kellogg, Bradley Kellogg, and Kimberly Kellogg; and 8 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Kellogg; son and daughter-in-law, Spencer and Helen Kellogg; grandson, Christopher Kellogg; and brothers, Virgil and Wilbur Nelson.

Rodola June Nelson, the daughter of Roy E. and Elvera A. (Miller) Nelson was born June 13, 1920 on a farm in Kearney County near Axtell, Nebraska.  She graduated from Minden High School in 1938 and taught in rural schools near Ogallala, Keene, and McCook.  She attended Kearney State Teachers College while continuing her teaching career.  She then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1948.  Rodola was employed by the County Extension Service until accepting a position on the faculty of Omaha Tech.  She was united in marriage to George Kellogg on August 28, 1949 at Bethany Lutheran Church near Axtell.  The couple made their home for a year and a half at Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Rodola taught in the public school system until moving to Kansas City, KS. There she remained busy as a homemaker caring for her three small children.  Due to George’s job with General Motors, the family was then transferred to Dayton, OH in 1955.  In 1968, they were again transferred and made their home in Paris, France.  In 1979, the couple returned to Ohio making their home at Kettering. In 2006, due to health concerns and to be closer to family, George and Rodola made their home at Humboldt.  Mr. Kellogg passed away in August of last year.

Rodola was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and a fifty-year member of her sorority.  While in Kettering, she was active in the Good Shepard Lutheran Church, Garden Club, and served as the Neighborhood Chairman for the Girl Scouts in Southwest Ohio.  In Paris, she was a co-founder of the organization “Bloom Where You’re Planted”, a support group for Americans living abroad.  She was a member of the Nebraska Alumni Association, was an avid reader, and was a worldwide traveler.  She enjoyed needlework and created Christmas stockings for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
