Roger A. Lindeman, 79, of Dakota City, passed away September 23, 2013 at the Paula Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Humboldt with the Rev. Marie Paterik officiating. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter with full military rites. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Roger Allen Lindeman, the son of Henry and Beth (Beers) Lindeman, was born July 30, 1934 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The family lived on a farm in Beaver Township until moving to a farm in Grove Township north of Humboldt. He attended school in Dakota City and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1952. Following his education, Roger began farming with his father and served in the Army National Guard.
Roger was united in marriage to Marlene Page on July 12, 1957 and the couple made their home in Dakota City. He worked for Butch’s OK Tire in Humboldt before going to work for REC for over 30 years. Roger was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Humboldt where he served on numerous committees and offices, sang in the church choir, and served as the custodian. In his retirement, Roger remained active as a school bus driver for the Humboldt Community School District for 15 years and as a bus driver for Monsanto’s detasseling crew. He was also an accomplished basket maker and wine maker and enjoyed golfing. In his younger years, Roger was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Roger was a member of the Izaak Walton League and was instrumental in establishing the Ladies Ox Bow Chapter.
Roger’s loving family includes his wife of 56 years, Marlene of Dakota City; his children, Donna (Tim) Harvey of Cedar Falls, David (Leslie) Lindeman of Johnston, Deb (Scott) Dahl of Dakota City, and Darci (Jayson) Wagner of Anamosa; grandchildren, Beth and Zach, Elizabeth, Julie, Kyle, Shelby, Carly, and Logan, Tyler and Maddy, and Nick and Maggie. His parents preceded him in death.
