Sheila M. (Halligan) La Velle 74, of Gilmore City, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

She was born October 19, 1944 on the family farm near Gilmore City and lived all her life in the Gilmore City area. She graduated from Gilmore City-Bradgate High School where she was active in many sports. Sheila graduated from Iowa Central Community College and attended Buena Vista College. On August 14, 1965 she married James La Velle at St. John’s Catholic Church in Gilmore City. They were blessed with four children, Michael, John, Linda and Diane. Sheila loved farming, fishing, gardening, sports, gambling and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her husband, James of Gilmore City, her children, Michael (Nancy) La Velle of Norwalk and John La Velle of Fort Dodge, Linda (Sean) McTaggart of Ankeny and Diane (Christopher) Brock of Fort Dodge, her grandchildren, Kyle LaVelle, Alec, Austin & Carter La Velle, Max, Jack & Josie McTaggart, Michael and Mariah Brock, Miranda (Justin) River and Baby Andersen, many nieces and nephews and special family and friend, Marsha Hacker, sister-in-law, Bonnie Halligan and sister, Vickie Kaufmen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Annis (Topliff) Halligan, parents-in-law, U.A. and Gertrude La Velle, sister and brother-in-law, Arlis and Denis Dodd and her brother, LeRoy Halligan

Visitation will be Friday, May 3rd from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Mass of Christian Burial will be on 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4th at St. Mary Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Gilmore City. www.masonlindhartfuneral.com
