Verlyn D. Endorf, the son of Raymond and Elizabeth (Henning) Endorf, was born December 28, 1932 at Sanborn, Iowa. He was raised and educated at Sanborn and graduated from Sanborn High School with the class of 1951. Verlyn then served in Korea with the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Sanborn and went to work with his father as a bricklayer. He met Ruth Kuhn, who was teaching at Sanborn, and the couple was united in marriage on August 25, 1957 at St. John’s Church near Depew. They made their home at Sanborn briefly before moving to Emmetsburg where Verlyn served as a construction Superintendent for Anderson Construction. In 1977, he accepted the position of Construction superintendent for Sande Construction until his retirement after 20 years of service.
Verlyn was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and his card group. In his retirement, he worked at perfecting his golf game and enjoyed walking, reading, and yard work. He loved the winters he spent in Texas with Ruth and enjoyed morning coffee with his friends at Ampride. After retirement, Verlyn went fishing every chance he could and especially loved taking his grandchildren when they were small. His family will always remember him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
