Warren H. Whipple, 85, of Humboldt, passed away November 29, 2008 at the Humboldt Care Center South.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating.  Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mr. Whipple is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marjorie of Humboldt; children, Bob (Jill) Detmering of Osage, IA, and Becky Gerritson of Sioux City, IA; sisters, Carol Cain of Grand Island, NE, and Esther Hill of Fort Dodge; foster brother, Andy (Roberta) Booheister of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Brandon (Cassie) Risetter, Judi (Rusty) Detmering, and Rob Detmering; step grandchildren, Teresa, Todd, and Trent Gerritson; 4 great grandchildren, Matthew Detmering, Peyton and Cameron Risetter, and Ryan Detmering; seven step great grandchildren; special niece and nephew Dale and Kathy Hill and their sons, Brian and Brad; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Ruth; sister Alice Moss; and brother, Ralph Whipple.
Warren Henry Whipple, the son of Myron and Martha (Millward) Whipple, was born March 26, 1923 on a farm in Rutland Township, Humboldt County.  He graduated from Rutland High School in 1940.  On May 29, 1963 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Mickelson Detmering at Eagle Grove, Iowa.  The couple farmed together until 1988 when they moved to their home in Humboldt.  In April of 2007, Warren became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South.
Warren was an active lifetime member of the Methodist Church where he served on the building committee for the present church, was a trustee, served on the finance committee, was on the board of Methodist Men, and was active in MYF as a young person.  He served for 23 years on the REC Board and 23 years on the Humboldt Mutual Insurance Board.  He served for many years on the Humboldt Homes Board, was a 65-year member of the Rutland IOOF Lodge and for many years served as a 4-H Leader.
A man with strong family ties, Warren was known as a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, friend and confidant.  He will be dearly missed by is family.
