Beverly Jean Goettsch Petersen was born July 10, 1933, in Cherokee; the daughter of Roy and Eliza (Geisland) Miles. She grew up in Cherokee, where she graduated from high school. Beverly later moved to the Orange City area, where she raised her six children and made her home.
Throughout her life, Beverly worked a variety of jobs. She was a clerk at a grocery store, owned and operated a furniture store, and later sold medical supplies in California. While she took pride in her work, her greatest accomplishment and joy was raising her six children.
Beverly enjoyed many activities and treasured the friendships and memories they brought. She loved playing horseshoes and was a champion in Southern California. She also enjoyed bowling, crocheting blankets, and gathering with her daily coffee club.
Beverly died Wednesday, August 27, 2026, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. She was 93.
She is survived by her children, Gloria Goettsch of Humboldt, Barbara (Michael) Goettsch Mathis of Bakersfield, CA, Linda Bleich Johnson of Dakota City, Rusty Goettsch of Humboldt; grandchildren, Jeramy Bleich of Dakota City, Holly Mathis of Bakersville, CA, Michael Goettsch of Eugene, OR, Jacob (Megan) Goettsch of Gainsville, FL
Preceding her in death are her sons, Robert ‘Bobby” Goettsch and Randy Goettsch; grandson, Preston Mathis; and sister, Helen Sargent.
