Bruce L. Bakken

Bruce L. Bakken, 71, of Bode, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics in Clarion.

Bruce Lee Bakken was born August 15, 1954, in Bode, Iowa, the son of Donald and Della (Janssen) Bakken. He grew up in Bode and graduated from Twin Rivers High School in 1972. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Virginia and later Alaska. On June 11, 1978, Bruce was united in marriage to Barbara Demory, and the couple made their home in Humboldt and later Bode. To this union three children were born, Danielle, Andrea and Krystina. The couple later divorced. Bruce married Cynthia Schnetzer on July 10, 2018, and the couple made their home in Oklahoma. Bruce spent his career as an over the road truck driver, transporting cargo coast to coast. Following Cynthia’s passing, Bruce returned to Iowa, moving to West Bend.

He enjoyed his time with family, reading, watching NASCAR races, and a bit of time at the cigar shop in Livermore.

He is survived by his children, Danielle, (Jeremy) Quinn of West Bend, Andrea Schuller of West Bend, Krystina (Brad) Brunner of Livermore, siblings, Paul Bakken (Phyllis Smith) of Minnesota and Jeanne (Kenny) Powers of Texas, grandchildren, Taylor Spencer, Zaine Bakken-McBride, Aysa Lyons, Aidyn Spencer, Lainey Spencer, Dane Bakken-Vote, Alexis Schroeder Nicole Humphrey, and many nieces and nephews.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Cynthia, sisters, Margaret Bakken and Ruth Bakken, his parents, niece, Rachel Abbas, nephew, Heath Bakken, and grandson, Alexander Bakken-McBride.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode.
