Catherine “Kate” Agnes Heun, the daughter of Norbert and Frances (Fox) Heun, was born on June 19, 1912. She was the second oldest of 13 children. She grew up on farms in the Clare area, working hard doing farm chores and taking care of younger siblings. She could tell you many interesting stories about farming in the 1920’s. She also loved the times getting together with relatives and friends having house and barn dances. She liked doing the Charleston and square dancing.
She attended country schools in the Clare area. Catherine “Kate” married Albert Lester Marcellus, January 6, 1931 at the Parish House of St. Matthews church in Clare, Iowa. She still enjoyed going to dances with Albert. They lived in Humboldt through their married life.
In earlier years she worked part time in the restaurant of Hoop’s Sale Barn and at Hood’s Super Value. But her main job was taking care of her home and five children. Later, she really enjoyed all of her grandchildren. In Albert and Kate’s retirement years, they enjoyed camping and fishing.
Kate has seen many changes and inventions through her long life. The latest amazement to her was the cell phone. She got a kick out of everything you can do on your cell phone including taking selfie’s!
