Conrad Albertus Burgers, 68, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Ft. Dodge, Iowa with his family by his side. A celebration of Con’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Conrad was born on May 8, 1948, the son of Weber and Jane (Van Oort) Burgers in Hull, Iowa. He was raised in Rock Valley, Iowa and graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1966. Con was a proud alumnae of Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. On March 1, 1980, he was united in marriage to LuAnn Palmer in Manchester, Iowa. They lived the majority of their married life in Humboldt, where Con worked as an insurance adjuster for over 40 years until he retired in 2013. He was active in the community serving as a member of the Board of Adjustments and volunteering on other community projects throughout the years. He was a longtime member of the 7:00 Kiwanis, serving as President more than once. He enjoyed golfing in the Humboldt Country Club Men’s Golf League, winning the league with his partner in 2015. Con loved to watch baseball, attend high school sporting events, fish in Canada, travel with LuAnn, spend time with his family and friends, and especially being a papa to his five grandchildren. He was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and sang in the choir.

Con is survived by his wife of 36 years, LuAnn Burgers; his three daughters; Emily (Brett) Hager, Allison (Erik) Haberman, Lauren (Kyle) Vanderhorst and his exchange daughter, Lea Schmandt of Linden, Germany; his grandchildren; Elliott and Clara Hager, Alton Haberman, and Nora and Mae Vanderhorst; his brother, Jerry (Glenda) Burgers and sister, Wanda Burgers; mother-in-law Martha Palmer, sisters-in-law Ellen (Marvin) Wehrle and Kathy (Ken) Brokaw and brother-in-law Steve (Anita) Palmer; many nieces and nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, David Miller; and father-in-law, Douglas Palmer.

A Conrad Burgers Memorial Fund has been established to be used for the betterment of the community.
