Daryl L. Long

Daryl L. Long, 87 of Humboldt, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, June 18, 2023 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

He was born August 12, 1935 in Ellsworth, Minnesota, the son of Claude A. and Charlotte (Beers) Long.  He moved with his family at an early age where he was raised and educated, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1953.  He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War.  On April 18, 1958, Daryl was united in marriage to Sharon K. McVay.  The couple made their home in Humboldt, where they raised their family and he began his work in sales.  He went on to career in law enforcement working for both the Humboldt Police and Sheriff’s Department.  Daryl returned to sales and sold cars for Eggerich Chevrolet and later Humboldt Motors until his retirement.  In retirement he enjoyed delivering for Ag Parts. 

He was a member of the Humboldt JC’s, Faith United Methodist Church, the Humboldt Fire Department for 37 years, joined and served the Fire Training Consultants for 21 years, was a member of the Adams American Legion Post #119 and the Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post #5240, served as treasurer for Honor Flight and had been on the board of Indian Mound Cemetery.

Daryl is survived by his wife of 65 years Sharon, his children Darla VanGronigen of Humboldt, Daryl (Karen) Long, Jr. of Fairfield, California and Dana (Laura) Long of Hot Springs, Arkansas, his grandchildren Leah (Jon) Myer, Kellie Long, Camille (Andrew) Cuneo, Kayte Long and Michael (Brittney) Long and his great-grandchildren RyLee, Paitynn, Tayler, Maddux, Slate and JoLee.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Beverly Laurenson and his grandson Frank Marchant.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23rd at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 22nd at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service, Humboldt.  Burial with military rites by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW and American Legion will be in Indian Mound Cemetery.   www.masonlindhart.com
