David S. Petersen, 64, of Dakota City, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 3, 1956 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Norman and Joyce Petersen. Dave was raised and educated in Humboldt, graduating in 1974. After school he lived in Wyoming and Colorado returning to Iowa in 1987. In 1991 he married Lynn Schmidt and they had a daughter, Paxton.
Dave worked at B & N Auto. For the last seventeen years Dave and Lynn owned and operated Humboldt Auto Center and Humboldt Dry Cleaners. David loved golfing, taking part in many tournaments and enjoyed many years of league play. He enjoyed sharing his love of the Iowa Hawkeyes with his daughter, attending many games with her since she was six years old. Dave especially enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor when it came to his gardening skills, giving friends and neighbors tomatoes, pickles and jams.

He is survived by his wife Lynn, his daughter Paxton, mother Joyce of Dakota City, brother Bill (Sheri) Petersen of Humboldt, sister Cathy (Geoff) Mickelson of Humboldt, brother Terry (Donna) Petersen of Des Moines, Lyn (Dan) Forgey of Colome, South Dakota, brother Stuart Petersen of Colorado and sister-in-law Lori Petersen of Bozeman, Montana. Dave was preceded in death by his father and brother Steve.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24th at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. A private funeral service will be held Saturday for family and friends.
