Dolores was baptized into the Christian faith at First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City. She was raised and educated in Pocahontas, Humboldt, and Calhoun Counties. In 1946 she graduated from High School in Rinard, IA. Dolores worked as a telephone operator in Emmetsburg until transferring to Fort Dodge. She met Richard “Dick” Hacker and they were married on November 15, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Four children blessed this union: Ricky, Donella, Shari and Timothy. They were married for nearly 55 years and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary among family and friends in 2003. They made their home on farms in the Ottosen and Bradgate area, until moving into Humboldt in the fall of 1969. In 1995 they moved to an apartment. Dolores and Dick enjoyed traveling to see their children, grandchildren, family and friends. They also enjoyed their card club of 40 years and serving as chairman and delivering meals-on-wheels. Dolores and Dick raised several foster children. Dolores had a strong faith in the Lord and together she and Dick served Zion’s Tape Ministry for about 16 years. Dolores was a homemaker and had also cooked at the Senior Center. Dolores cared for Dick at their apartment until his death on July 23, 2008 where she continued to maintain her home.
