Donna Jean Ober

July 19, 1930 — December 27, 2019

Donna Jean Ober, peacefully passed away at Greene County Hospital Long Term Care in Jefferson Iowa on Friday, December 27th, 2019 at the age of 89. During her last few weeks, she reminisced with friends and family sharing the joys through the many years of her life. She had stated a number of times that "I have lived a good life and I am ready to go see my husband, Phil, my daughter, Carolyn, and my sister Marilyn in Heaven."

Donna was born July 19, 1930 to Raleigh and Mildred Van Sickle on the family farm near Thor, Iowa. In 1942, they moved to a farm in the Gilmore City-Bradgate area where she attended the country school and graduated from Gilmore City in 1949. Following graduation, Donna worked as a nurse's aide at the Fort Dodge Hospital caring for children that were sick with Polio. While working at the hospital, her roommates introduced her to Phillip Ober who she later married in 1953.

Together they farmed in the Calendar area and in 1968 they took over her parent's family farm near Bradgate where they raised four children. Donna's husband, Phil, passed away in 1992. She moved to Dakota City and later resided at the Humboldt South Care Center and eventually Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care in Jefferson.

Working together on the farm with Phil, she learned to drive tractors and care for the livestock. Whenever possible they would try to get away and go fishing or take trips across the country in their camper. During the winter months, Donna would embroider quilts for family members to pass down for generations. She was a devoted Christian and member of the Oak Hill church in Humboldt. Her belief in God carried her through with peace during many of the challenges in her life and her last few days here on earth.

Donna is survived by her children Doug (Michelle) Ober of Humboldt, Judy (Butch) Moore of Early and Jim (Ann) Ober of Jefferson, her siblings, Ronald Van Sickle of Estherville and Joyce (Harold) Entgelmeier of Humboldt and nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
