Dora Tofteberg of Humboldt, formerly of Bode, died April 17, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode. Visitation is from 4:30 – 7 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Bode.
Dora Hinz, the daughter of Michael and Amanda (Schmidt) Hinz, was born May 28, 1923 at LuVerne, Iowa. Dora attended parochial school in LuVerne and was confirmed at LuVerne Zion Lutheran Church in April of 1938. On September 10, 1944, she married Leo Tofteberg and the couple made their home in Bode and Ottosen. In Ottosen, Dora worked for several years in the local hardware store. After moving back to Bode, Dora was employed by the Bode School in the dietary and laundry service.
Dora was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode and enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing in the church choir, and was a member of the Women of St. Olaf and Lydia Circle. She will be remembered for her delicious cinnamon rolls, buns, and cookies which were generously given to many friends and family. Her greatest joys was serving the Lord and being with her family and friends.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Tofteberg; son, Dallas Tofteberg; one great grandchild, Clara Strickland; an infant brother; brothers, Clarence, Henry, and Arnold Hinz; and sisters, Bertha Naefke, Luella Wehrspann, and Emma Bratland.
She is survived by her daughter Gloria (Jack) Strickland of Humboldt; her son, Harlan (Connie) Tofteberg of Eagle Grove; grandchildren, Patty (Greg) Alley, Brad (Amy) Strickland, Chris (Connie) Tofteberg, and Carrie (Bill) Zimmerle; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Elsie Abel and Lois Palsic; brothers, Walter and Norman Hinz; and several nieces and nephews.
