Dorothy M. Rice Erickson, 91, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 1, 1932, in Plover, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Edna (Martin) Sroufe.  She was raised and educated in Plover and on July 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Gail Rice in Gilmore City.  The couple moved frequently throughout the Midwest and made their home in Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri and Iowa, moving to Humboldt in 1955.  Dorothy worked at DeKalb Seed Corn, Anthony’s Department Store, Dot’s Café, Martin Home Interiors and was a receptionist for Dr. Beryl Michaelson.  Following Gail’s passing, she met Edwin “Ted” Erickson and they were married October 3, 2003.  Dorothy was a member of Oak Hill Church, Eastern Star, Humboldt County Republican Women and the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter Jackie Fevold of Humboldt and her son Larry Rice of Maquoketa, her step-children Kathy Zoch of Fort Dodge, Sherri (Kent) Johnson of Pocahontas and Becky (Bill) Vit of Fort Dodge, her grandchildren Jared, Jennifer, Justin, Heather, Tara, Trevor, Cody, Derek, Nicholas, Kayla and Nathan, several step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, her sisters Ilene Becke of Lake City, Lois Boughey and Kathleen Ellsworth both of Humboldt.  She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son Terry, granddaughter Janelle, her brother Dean Allen and her step-daughter Barbara Rusher.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5th at Oak Hill Church in Humboldt.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday at the church.  Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery.  The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.   www.masonlindhart.com
