Douglas L. “Doug” Fliehe, 68, of Clare passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, July 11, 2025 at his home.
Doug was born October 18, 1956 in Redfield, South Dakota the son of LeRoy and Laura (Walton) Fliehe. He was raised and educated in Redfield and when he turned eighteen he enlisted in the United States Air Force and would later serve in the Army. He was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota and in Germany. Following his discharge Doug went on to further his education attending colleges in South Dakota and ultimately earning his Masters. He married Norma Potter in 1973. That marriage later dissolved. He worked as a medical assistant in Denver, Colorado for a time and in 1988 came to Iowa. On September 12, 1991 Doug was united in marriage to Kathleen Beeghly-Fliehe. Doug became a substance abuse counselor and started his journey working in Fort Madison, later NCARF in Fort Dodge and Trinity Regional Hospital. He was an adjunct professor at Iowa Central Community College and finished his career at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility, retiring in 2017.
Doug enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, restoring old campers, nature and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed walks with his dog, Lulu, however what was most important was time with family. Doug and Kat loved to travel and have adventures. They travelled throughout the US and several countries internationally.
Doug is survived by his wife Kat of Clare, children; James (Sara E.) Fliehe of Humboldt, Tim (Kristi) Bacon of Manly, Michael Fliehe and Joseph Fliehe both of Rolfe, Daniel Fliehe of Janesville, Wisconsin, grandchildren; Randall, Dawn, Alexander, Jasmine, Joclyn, Aaron, Justyne, Jeraea, Shawn, Braden, Lakyn, Duane and Jaxon, great-grandchildren David and Remy, his sisters; Linda (Richard) Radcliffe of Arvada, Colorado, Donna Fey of Aberdeen, South Dakota and Dianne (James) Uttenhove of Ipswich, South Dakota, his mother-in-law Connie Beeghly of Moville, Iowa, and his sisters-in-law, Debby Walker of Glenham, South Dakota and Shari Beeghly of Fort Pierre, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandsons David James and Ian, father-in-law Dana Beeghly and his faithful companion Lulu.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 17th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. www.masonlindhart.com
