Memorial Services for Doug Rossbach, 83, formerly of Humboldt, will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service both at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
Douglas James Rossbach, the son of Rev. Walter Karl John Rossbach and Darlene Esther (Bolte) Rossbach, was born on April 13, 1942, at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He and his family lived in Canada until moving to Benkelman, Nebraska in 1951.
Doug graduated from Benkelman High School in 1960. He then attended the University of Dubuque, 1960-1962 and lived with his grandmother, Ida Bolte in Dubuque.
On July 14, 1963, Doug was united in marriage to Barbara Ruth Brown at the Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman, Nebraska. When Doug decided to enter the teaching field in 1965, the couple moved to Blair, Nebraska where he attended Dana College, graduating in 1968 with his BA in Secondary Education, an English Major and Spanish Minor.
In 1968 Doug began his 33-year career with the Humboldt Community School District, teaching seventh through twelfth grade levels of English, Spanish, Composition, Communication Concepts, Reading, Technical Writing and Mythology. He was very devoted to teaching and to the success of his students. During his summer months, Doug drove truck for American Concrete and after retiring, he was employed by Dennis Thompson & Sons Trucking.
Doug was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, serving on numerous boards and committees. He was also active in later years in the Damascus Road Prison Ministries.
Doug and Barbara enjoyed time visiting family and friends, traveling to car races, concerts, plays and Nebraska football games.
Doug passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the Madrid Home in Madrid. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darvin “Darty” Rossbach, Rev. David Rossbach (Lucille), Rev. Daniel Rossbach and sister-in-law, Mary Rossbach.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Barbara Rossbach of Madrid; siblings: Darlene Barton (James), Don Rossbach (Janet), Dale Rossbach, Julie, Ross, Dwight Rossbach and his friend and daughter of the heart, Carmen Black and husband Terry Hodges.
