Dr. Dean C. Harmon

Dean C. Harmon, DVM., 92, of Clive, formerly of Humboldt, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at MercyOne Medical Center – West Lake in West Des Moines.

Dean Corbin Harmon was born January 10, 1934 in Creston, Iowa the son of Rex McVey and Gladys (Corbin) Harmon. He was raised and educated in Creston graduating from Creston High School in 1952. On November 27th of that year, he was united in marriage to Janice Jo Hayes. The couple made their home in Ames and Dean studied at Iowa State University for the following eight years to obtain his degree in Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. The couple then made their home in Humboldt where they raised their family and Dean practiced veterinary medicine for fifty-seven years, owning and operating Harmon Animal Clinic. Dean was at heart a Cyclone fan, football, basketball and wrestling, enjoyed a good round of golf and playing pitch for nickels. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church.

Dean is survived by his wife of 73 years, Janice, his sons, Mike (Sue) Harmon of West Des Moines and Rick (Becky) Harmon of Des Moines, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his siblings; Wayne (Lu) Harmon of Palm Springs, California, Sharon Gibson of Lafayette, Colorado and Larry (Linda) Harmon of Tekamah, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Gary.
