Emmett M. Wiegert, 91, of Humboldt, passed away April 1, 2014 at his home.  A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. James Tigges, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation is from 12 – 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.  The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is entrusted with the arrangements.

Mr. Wiegert is survived by his wife, Charlene “Chuck” Wiegert of Humboldt; his step daughters, Cynthia (Pete) Reinertsen of Waterloo and Monica Johnson of Humboldt; grandchildren, Sarah Reinertsen, Amy Federspiel, McKenzie Johnson, Christopher Cran, Lindsey Johnson, and Katie Phillips; great grandson, Andrew Federspiel, as well as one on the way; and his niece Barbara Bryan of Laurel, MD.  He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Peter Cran; and sister, Roberta Bollard.

Emmett Mathew Wiegert, the son of Carl and Mary (Kenney) Wiegert, was born January 14, 1923 on a farm south of Gilmore City, Iowa.  He was raised on the family farm and attended school at Humboldt.  He graduated from Humboldt High School where he excelled in Football and received the Marvel Friesth Award.  He enlisted into the United States Army Infantry during World War II and served in both the European and Pacific Theaters.  Following his honorable discharge, Emmett returned home with the intention of attending Notre Dame but instead took a position with Bell Telephone.  Emmett served the telephone company for 32 ½ years until his retirement.

Emmett became reacquainted with his long time friend Charlene “Chuck Cran following the death of her husband, Burton.  The couple were united in marriage in August of 1982 and made their home in Humboldt.

Emmett was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a past member of the American Legion.  An avid sports fan, Emmett loved watching all kinds of sporting events on TV.  He was a faithful Iowa Hawkeye fan and held season Tickets for many years.  Emmett attended most Drake Relays and many Olympic Games around the world.  He enjoyed Golfing and gardening and was devout in his faith.
