George R. Jensen, 88 of Humboldt, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday evening, April 27, 2023, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt.
He was born April 10, 1935 in Humboldt, the son of Arthur G. and Roberta M. (King) Jensen. He was raised on the family farm near Rutland and educated in Humboldt. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Phyllis A. Lee on June 6, 1958 in Thor. The couple made their home in Humboldt and George was employed at Corn Belt Power Cooperative for 42 years, retiring in 2000. Together he and his wife Phyllis owned and operated Humboldt Office Supply. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with family at the farm and at their cabin. He entertained family and friends every year with his fireworks display on July 3rd and was a regular member of the Tuesday morning Corn Belt Coffee Club at Miller’s.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis of Humboldt, his daughters Julie (Kenny) Day of Rutland and Jan (John) Porter of Eagan, Minnesota, his grandchildren Mike (Christina) Zeman and their children Ava & Isla and Lauren (Jason) Thraen and their son Caleb. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son Jeff.
