She received her education in Renwick and graduated from Renwick High School with the class of 1955. On March 2, 1957, Gladys was united in marriage to Perry Slaikeu at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt.

Gladys enjoyed camping with the family and baking peach cobbler in the dutch oven at the campsite. Gladys adored children as was obvious through her many years of volunteering as a Sunday School teacher. During the annual Christmas Tree Walk at the Faith United Methodist Church, Gladys was fond of managing the refreshments for the numerous buses touring the festivities. Gladys was also an active member of United Methodist Women for many years. She had a passion for making crafts and sharing them with family and friends.
