Janice S. Hill, 87, of rural Hardy, passed away on Friday morning, June 2, 2023 in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 26, 1935 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Doris (Johnson) Westerbeck. She moved with her family at an early age to Humboldt where she was raised and educated, active in the Camp Fire Girls and graduating from Humboldt High School in 1953. Janice was united in marriage to Amos A. Hill and the couple made their home on a farm near Hardy where they raised their family. She frequently served as a chaperone on her children’s high school band trips. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aide and Circle and later Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She and two of her childhood friends with their husbands enjoyed a Supper Club which they maintained for 37 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved to shop.
Janice is survived by her children Michael (Debra) Hill of Trout Lake, Washington and Sandra (James) Harris of Arlington, Texas, her grandchildren Benjamin Hockel, Eric (Lindsey) Hockel, Wesley Harris, Lucas (Wendy) Xu-Hill, Mackenzie Hill, Elijah Hill and Tucker Hill and one great –granddaughter Bailey Hockel. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Amos and her brother Gerald Westerbeck.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 10th and visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service, both at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Hardy. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements. www.masonlindhart.com
