Jo Ann George, 90, of Humboldt, passed away on Monday afternoon, August 25, 2025 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt.

Jo Ann was born August 11, 1935 in Osceola, Iowa the daughter of Eugene and Lillian (Woods) Simpson. She moved with her family at an early age to Rutland and attended Humboldt Schools. She was united in marriage to Jerry L. George on February 1, 1952 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. The couple made their home in the Humboldt area where they raised their family. Jo Ann handled the books for her husband at Jerry’s Conoco and later worked at Martin Home Interiors. She and Jerry owned the Fireside Restaurant, later the Bootery and The Image. Jo Ann especially enjoyed time with family and friends and time spent sewing and knitting.

Jo Ann is survived by her children; Michael (Rhonda) George and Michelle (Bob) Nielsen both of Humboldt, Marla (Steven) Koch of Ankeny and her son-in-law Dan Renken of Humboldt, her grandchildren; Matthew (Katie) George, Ashley (Curt) Westre, Nathan (Sarah) George, Nicole (Ryan) Watnem, Mindy (Jeff) Johannsen, Jason (Holly) Nielsen, Sara Koch, Tyler Koch and Wendy (Thomas) Wimmer, twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry, daughter Joan Renken and her sisters Beverly Rasmussen and Sue Pollak.
