Jon J. Paulson, 88 of Humboldt, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Jon, the son of Edwin and Doris (Wearmouth) Paulson was born July 31, 1937 in Rutland, Iowa. He was raised and attended school at Rutland. The family later moved to Fort Dodge where he graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1955.
After graduation he worked and was drafted into the US Army where he was stationed in Alaska. Following his discharge from the Army he returned home where he worked with his brother and met Janet Allen.
In 1963 he was united in marriage to Janet K. Allen and attended Vo Tech school in Nebraska. They were blessed with 3 children, Joseph, Julie & Steven. They were married 34 years until her passing in 1997.
In 1969, Jon first met his future wife, Deanne, at the wedding of Janet’s sister—though neither knew what the future held. Many years later, their paths crossed again. Jon and Deanne Ricklefs were united in marriage in 2007, and Jon welcomed a stepson, Douglas Winkey, into his life.
Highlights of Jon’s life included trap shooting, building his dream home on the farm, and retiring in 1998. He was honored to take part in the Honor Flight in 2018 and was grateful to attend four of his grandchildren’s weddings—especially cherished was the privilege of serving as best man at his grandson Kyle’s wedding. There were countless other moments that made his life rich and full.
Jon is survived by his wife, Deanne Ricklefs of Humboldt; his children, Joseph (Deb) Paulson of Renwick and Julie (Paul) Kollmorgen of Humboldt; and his stepson, Douglas Winkey of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lukas (Olivia) Kollmorgen, Sydney (Grant) Consoletti, Kallie (Matthew) Bentz, Cayla Paulson, Kyle (Hannah) Paulson, and Hailey Paulson; and his great-grandchildren, Cecil and Opal Kollmorgen. Additional survivors include his sisters-in-law Janiece Paulson, Carol (Dennis) Ricklefs, and Judy Slama, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Janet; his son, Steven Paulson; his parents; and his brothers, Jack and Jerry.
