Joseph D. Tille, 89, of Rutland, passed away on Fridy morning, June 13, 2025 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt.

Joseph David Tille was born October 9, 1935 in Adrian, Minnesota to John and Elizabeth Tille. Joe was born and raised in Adrian, Minnesota. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1953. He enlisted in the Marines and did a 2 year enlistment. As a kid he worked as a pin setter at a local bowling alley. There he fell in love with the game and received many trophies. On August 5, 1961 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Joe worked at a concession stand serving Dr. Pepper at the first expedition game of Minnesota Vikings versus the Dallas Cowboys. He was a route delivery person for Dr. Pepper. You could always see him with a Dr. Pepper in his hand. Joe was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings Fan.

On June 2, 1962 he married Arlene Phyllis Beek and from this union came four children Jolene, Joel, Greg and Les. Joe and Arlene both worked at the Safeway Egg Department in Adrian, Minnesota. They were recruited to work at the newly constructed FarmEgg facility in Iowa. That job brought the family to Iowa in 1970. They made their home in Rutland, Iowa. Joe and Arlene owned Tille’s Cafe where he would get up every morning to make his famous cinnamon rolls that everyone loved. He would then go to work at the Rutland Lumber yard. Joe worked as a feed truck driver for the Rutland Elevator until his retirement at the age of 62. Then he worked for the City of Rutland as the city maintenance man till the age of 86.

Joe is survived by his daughter Jolene Coleman of Livermore, sons Joel (Susan) Tille of Rutland, Greg (Jennifer) Tille of Humboldt and Les Tille of Rutland. Grandchildren Derek (Alecia) Tille, Jordan Tille, Harrison Tille, Lucas (Rebecca) Tille, Kayla Tille and Addisyn Tille. Step grandchildren Minde Coleman, Jessica (David) Kunkel and Jason (Lindsey) Coleman. Seven great grandchildren and one due in November. Six step great grandchildren and sister Annie Laing. Many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by wife Arlene, parents, five brothers and five sisters, and son in law Kerry Coleman.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22nd at the Rutland Community Center in Rutland.  Arrangements are being handled by the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt.   www.masonlindhart.com
