Judy K. Shelgren

August 9, 1940 — July 19, 2022

Judy Shelgren passed away at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, after a long and full life that was lived in Humboldt and Pocahontas Counties. Judy was 81.

Judy was born August 9, 1940, the daughter of Harold and Esther (George) Thorson, the youngest of four including Blaine, Bryce and Kent Thorson. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1958 and married Edward (Eddie) Shelgren on May 21, 1960. Eddie and Judy were never far apart from one another and farmed near Gilmore City. They welcomed two children Brenda and Rod into their family. Judy cherished her life of family, friends and farming. She was active in the farming operation and very much a partner to Eddie. While continuing to be active in farming, in 1995, they moved to Humboldt. In recent years she could frequently be seen supporting local sports teams, well past her children and grandchildren’s activities.

Judy is survived by daughter Brenda (Paul) Wilson of Maple Grove. Minnesota, daughter-in-law Lindy Shelgren of Humboldt, grandchildren Evan (Erika) Wilson of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Nick (Christina) Wilson of Reston, Virigina, Machensey (Colin Chabot) Shelgren of Dayton, Ohio and Brady Shelgren of Gilmore City and brother Kent (Helen) Thorson of Clarinda, Iowa and sister-in-law Lucy Thorson.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Esther Thorson, husband Eddie Shelgren, son Rod Shelgren, brothers Blaine and Bryce Thorson, and sister-in-law Barb Thorson.
