Larry E. “Grease” Johnson, 74, of Dakota City, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 14, 2024 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Larry was born June 12, 1949, in Lake City, Iowa the son of Paul and Ruby (Demien) Johnson. He was raised in Farnhamville and Rutland and graduated from Humboldt High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam attaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his discharge he returned to the Rutland area and worked for Chantland Manufacturing, later G&H Motor Parts, the family excavating business and Hanisch Manufacturing. He owned and operated JIT Machining and later supplied parts for Hydrobikes in Humboldt. Grease met Linda Bleich and the couple spent over 40 years together, marrying on May 22, 2021 and making their home in Dakota City. Grease enjoyed building guns, competitive shooting, motorcycles and building and fixing just about anything.
He is survived by his wife, Linda and step-son Jeramy Bleich (Darcy Holland) all of Dakota City, his sister Paulette Johnson of Humboldt and his brother Donavon Johnson of Yankton, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kirby.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22nd at the Rutland Community Hall. Military rites will be given by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW & American Legion at 3:00 p.m. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements. www.masonlindhart.com
