Margaret W. Meyers, 94 of Hardy, passed away on Thursday evening, May 9, 2019 at the Humboldt Care Center North.

Margaret W. (Pachico) Meyers was born in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, on Martha’s Vineyard Island on May 1, 1925, to William and Christine (Anderson) Pachico. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Vineyard Haven and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1962 at Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Thor, Iowa. She graduated from Tisbury High School of Vineyard Haven in 1943. Margaret was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Livermore, IA.

Having traveled to California during World War II to work she met the love of her life who was serving in the army. Margaret married Clarence A. Meyers of Ringsted, Iowa, at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Iowa, on March 2, 1947. They began farming in Minnesota and a year later returned to Humboldt County and sharecropped farms near Humboldt, Livermore, Thor, and Hardy. In 1995 they moved into a home in Hardy. Following Clarence’s death in 2005, Margaret continued to live in Hardy until moving to Humboldt Care Center North in February 2019. She retired as Hardy’s Postmaster in 2005 at the age of 79 after 30+ years serving first as the post office clerk and then the postmaster.

Margaret is survived by children Virginia (Eugene “Butch”) Hefty, Lu Verne, IA., Gary Meyers, Humboldt, IA., Larry (Terri) Meyers, Renwick, IA., Rachel (Kim) Oelkers, Johnson Lake, NE., Cheryl (Duane) Janssen, Rockwell City, IA., 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, sister, Christine Fisher, Vineyard Haven, MA., sisters-in-law, Doris Van Horn, Neva Helvick,, both of Humboldt, Iowa, and Geraldine Harris, Webster City, Iowa, many nieces and nephews and her dear caregiver, Teri Cerwick of Hardy, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 2005, parents, William & Christine Pachico, brother, Lawrence Pachico, sister, Ruth Snider, infant daughter Karen Kristine, son-in-law Jerry Schauper, and in-laws, George & Karen Meyer.

Margaret loved to read, do crossword puzzles, play bingo, and spend time with her family. She and Clarence loved to travel in their “Winnie” wagon and made many trips to Martha’s Vineyard Island to visit her childhood home and family.

Visitation will be on Sunday, May 12th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service, Humboldt. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a,m. on Monday, May, May 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Humboldt. www.masonlindhart.com
