Humboldt

Marilyn, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Jacobs) Marcellus was born at home in Dakota City, Iowa.  Marilyn grew up in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1954 and from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls in 1956.  She taught in the Latimer-Coulter and Humboldt Community School Districts.  Marilyn married Marvin Lindemann in 1958 at First Lutheran Church in Humboldt.  Later, she taught Head Start Preschool and enrolled in Buena Vista College for her Bachelor’s degree in education, graduating in 1985.  She enjoyed working with the Humboldt Library for nearly 20 years prior to her retirement.

Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother, supporting Marvin in his dairy farming endeavors and her children in their school and 4-H activities.  Marilyn loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren, playing, reading, cooking, and sewing with them.  

Marilyn was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and later leading the Quilting group.  She was a Leader for the Corinth Red Stars 4-H Club, belonged to the Corinth Township OFA Club and square danced with Marvin.  

Marilyn is survived by her children; Denise Lindemann of Humboldt, Mary Kay (Carl) Bruihler of St. Peter, Minnesota, Michael (Michelle) Lindemann of Humboldt, and Sandra (Randy) Greufe of Blairsburg; grandchildren, Kelsi, Cody (Sara), and Colton (Maddie) Lindemann, Bente, Jacob, Aaron and Sarah Bruihler, Kaleigh, Levi and Landon Greufe, Ashlee (James) Jensen, Jayda (Kyle) and Weston Henson; 7 great-grandchildren and her brother Kenneth (Nancy Decker) Marcellus of Brewster, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin;  infant daughter, Michelle; infant grandchildren Kirsten and Kaleb Greufe; parents, Emma (Jacobs) and Carl Marcellus; parents-in-law, Carl and Leona (Bowen) Lindemann; and in-law’s, Carol and Wendell Fortner. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27th at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Reverend Katherine Russell officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.  Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery.   www.masonlindhart.com
