Merrill K. Kelling, 80, of Humboldt, passed away February 28, 2014 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Charles Luers officiating.  Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Merrill K. Kelling, the son of Loren and Blanche (Clancy) Kelling, was born September 8, 1933 at Hardy, Iowa.  He grew up near Hardy and graduated from Renwick High School.  Following his education, Merrill served in the United States Army.  He was united in marriage to Lois Kleen on May 27, 1956 at the Renwick United Methodist Church.  The couple lived and farmed in Grove Township in Humboldt County until moving to Dakota City.  For many years, Merrill served as a rural mail carrier until his retirement.

Mr. Kelling was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church.  He is survived by his wife, Lois of Humboldt; sons and daughter-in-laws, Brett and Jackie of Humboldt, Lon and Julie of Mankato, MN, Joel and Carla of Grinnell, and Craig of Humboldt; nine grandchildren, Ashley (Tony) Nelson, Abby (Mike) Devers, Allie (Brandon) Haverly, Kelsey (Jon) Tilton, Kayla Kelling, Cameron Kelling, Justin Kelling, Kirsten Kelling, and Alyssa Kelling; and great grandchildren, Brynn Nelson, Hayden Devers and Heath Devers, as well as a great granddaughter  on the way.  Merrill is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Lange of Davenport; brother-in-laws, Jim (Sylvia) Kleen of Mankato, MN and Ken Bruene of Platte City, MO; his aunt, Grace Mauerer; several cousins, nieces and nephews; along with his faithful friend and dog, Arnie.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merlyn; and granddaughter, Nicole Marie Kelling.
