Perry R. Slaikeu, 84, of Humboldt, passed away in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening, September 19, 2023.
He was born October 8, 1938 in Goldfield, the son of Donald D. and Alta (Duerst) Slaikeu. He was raised and educated in the Goldfield area, graduating from Goldfield High School. He was united in marriage to Gladys Kiley on March 2, 1957. The couple made their home in Humboldt and Perry worked in law enforcement as an officer for the Humboldt Police Department and later as a deputy sheriff for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, was active as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Beaver Award and had been a member of the Jaycees. He was especially proud of his family and enjoyed attending their sporting and scouting events. He and Gladys liked to square dance and in his free time he enjoyed woodworking.
Perry is survived by his children Glenda (John) Giese of Des Moines, Scot (Colleen) Slaikeu of Dakota City, Kevin (Melissa) Slaikeu of Humboldt and Mark (Sandra) Slaikeu of Eagan, Minnesota, fourteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, his uncle Dick Slaikeu of Eagle Grove and his sister’s-in-law, Doris Slaikeu of LaPorte City, Jeanette Slaikeu of Mora, Minnesota and Pat Barrick of Monona, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gladys and his brothers Duane, Roger and James.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 25th at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. www.masonlindhart.com
