Phyllis A. Lundberg

A funeral service for Phyllis will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The service will be livestreamed on Zion Lutheran Church's Facebook page. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Phyllis Anna Lundberg was born on June 21, 1931, in Garner, IA, the daughter of Henry and Helena (Schlawin) Boland. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1949 and went on to attend Waldorf College in Forest City, graduating in 1951. She later continued her education at Luther College in Decorah.

Phyllis had a lifelong love for learning and children, which led her to a rewarding career in education. She taught school in Forest City, Reinbeck, and Mason City, spending much of her career teaching kindergarten and second grade. She especially loved working with young children and was known for her patience, compassion, and caring nature. She took great pride in helping her students learn and grow and touched the lives of many children throughout her years as a teacher.

On December 21, 1958, Phyllis was united in marriage to Douglas Lundberg. Together they made their home in Humboldt and shared many years of marriage and built a life centered around faith and family.

Phyllis was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the LWML. Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a devoted reader of the Bible.

She also had a wonderful gift for making people feel welcome and cared for. Family was at the heart of Phyllis's life. She especially treasured the time she spent with her grandsons and great-grandchildren.

Phyllis died Monday, August 17, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society Manson. She was 95.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie Howell of Manson, Ann (John) Haack of St. Louis, MO; five grandsons, Joshua (Kristine) Howell and Jordan (Ellie) Howell, Thomas Haack, Daniel Haack and William Haack; eight great-grandchildren, Blaze, Leo, Silas, Ezra and Kamdyn Howell, Hayes, Everett and Colsen Howell. Phyllis is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband of 62 years, Douglas; infant son; parents; infant brother; sisters, Margaret Rollefson and Lois Hennings; and son-in-law, Charles Howell.

The family would like to thank the nurses, CNAs and all staff members of Good Samaritan Manson for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice in Humboldt.
