Humboldt

Rock “M” Greene, 69, of Humboldt, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday evening, February 10, 2026.

Rock was born September 15, 1956 in Fort Dodge, the son of Channing and Shirley (Collins) Greene. He grew up in Dakota City and attended Humboldt Schools where he excelled in football and wrestling and met his best friend and love of his life Diane. Rock then enlisted in the United States Navy following his graduation in 1975. He was united in marriage to his junior high sweetheart, Diane C. Larson on July 30, 1977. Following his discharge from the service, he attended college in Sheldon and Sioux City obtaining a degree in Solar Technology. Rock then enlisted a second time in the Navy and after his second discharge the couple made their home in Minneapolis where he worked in heating & cooling. On his third enlistment in the US Navy he decided to make it his career, which led Rock and his family to move a total of 18 times over the course of 25 years. Rock and Diane made their home up and down the east coast, including Maine, South Carolina, Virginia and Florida, also 3 years overseas in Sicily. Rock ended his 23 year Naval career serving on the USS The Sullivans. Rock and Diane returned to Humboldt in 1999 following Rock’s retirement from the Navy to be closer to family. Rock worked various maintenance jobs until his full retirement in 2018. Rock loved spending his retirement traveling with his wife, vacationing with his family, working in the garden, woodworking in his shop, cheering on the Cyclones, but especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending any activity or sporting event they had. Rock knew how to enjoy life and loved his family above all else…cheers to you Rock and a life well lived.
