Shirley A. Curry, 90, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening September 7, 2023, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 2, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Howard D. and Frieda (Borg) Rapple. As an infant she and her family relocated to Humboldt where she was raised and educated, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1951. Following high school she worked as a soda jerk for Tigges Drug Store until her sweetheart, George S. Curry returned from the service. On May 23, 1954, she and George were united in marriage in Humboldt. The couple made their home on the farm near Bradgate and later Rutland where they raised their family. Shirley began working for DeKalb Seed Corn was employed there until retiring in 1995. In 1990, the couple purchased the Taft home in Humboldt and made renovations so that once they became occupants in 1991, they could operate a bed and breakfast and place the house on the historical registry. Shirley was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, enjoyed sewing, decorating and attending auctions.
She is survived by her children; Steve (Kathy) Curry of Humboldt, Cindy (David) Presler of Ankeny and Randy (Cheryl) Curry of Humboldt, ten grandchildren; Jason, Aaron, Anne, Dustin, Dan, Katie, Drew, Michael, Joshua & Lindsey, twenty great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law Arloa Rapple of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, two infant sons Michael and David and her brother Darlow.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11th at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Union Cemetery. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements. www.masonlindhart.com
