Shirley Rhea Decker was born November 7, 1939, in Ruthven; the daughter of Dwight and Lola (Clarke) Hampson. As a young girl, her family moved to Humboldt, where she attended school and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1957. She later attended LaJames College of Hair, where she eventually returned as an instructor. Later, Shirley also worked for her brother-in-law and sister, Gordon and Marge Laing, at Laings Auto Supply.
On November 11, 1962, Shirley was united in marriage to Terry Decker in Humboldt. Together they raised three children: Clark, Corey, and Christy.
Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved reading, butterflies and cardinals, Diet Mountain Dew, online shopping, playing computer games, and camping. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. Her greatest happiness came from being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought endless pride and joy to her life.
Shirley died Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at her home in Humboldt. She was 86.
She is survived by her children, Clark Decker of Humboldt and Corey (Joyce) Decker of Rutland, daughter Christy Decker of Humboldt; grandchildren, David, Dalton, Dustin, Dana, Ian, Brittany, James; great-grandchildren Zoey, Joseph, Alexxa, Jaxson, Raelynn, Jace, Caysin, Anissa, Rarety, Dempsey, and Tammy-Lynn. She is also survived by her nephew, Mark Laing; and niece, Theresa Kipfer.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Terry; parents, Dwight and Lola Hampson; and sister, Marge Laing.
